Just like any vacation it is important to plan things well in advance. We know what a thrill it can be to live in the moment and just pack up and go touring aroung Maine but that approach can lead to both minor and major problems for instance where do you get groceries or where is the nearest hospital.

Maine is probably the most beautiful state in America and with that natural beauty comes raw and rugged conditions if you are not prepared so it is vital that you make a plan of what you want from the vacation and then ask local experts what you need to sustain that dream camping trip.

Three step camping planning process
1. What do you want from your camping trip in Maine?
2. Where to you want to be be based during your stay in Maine?
3. Contact local campgrounds using our Maine Campgrounds Directory and ask then for all the information you can get your hands on for their campground and the surrounding areas. A good campground will gladly provide you with all the information you need.

Make reservations
To often people go on the spur of the moment and are shocked when they turn up at their dream campground without a reservation and it is full of other campers enjoying their dream vacation. The rule is simple: Alway make a reservation.

Whats in a season?
Maine is definetley a state with seasons! When you go to Florida any time of the year you pretty much know what you are getting but Maine has such wonderful seasons that a visit in July compared to October is like night and day. Each season in Maine offers breathtaking scenery and amazing opportunities so to truly take in what the state of Maine has to offer you either need to take 4 camping trips in a year of make one last for 12 months! Shorts or thermals, either way you are guaranteed a vacation of a lifetime in the beautiful state of Maine.

Going It Alone
The ultimate camping experience can be obtained by 'going it alone' and camping in the wilderness of Maine but the ultimate camping experience means that it should only be undertaken by the unlimate campers. It is a very unforgiving area and in often extremely remote locations. If you are thinking of camping in Maine this way then make sure you know what you are undertaking and be prepared for anything. We always recommend that you visit and stay at campground in Maine prior to 'going it alone'.
